The Rusutsu Resort is located in the southeast of Mount Yotei in Hokkaido, about a 90-minute drive from New Chitose Airport and Sapporo City. It is one of the largest ski resorts in Hokkaido, known for its excellent powder snow and has won the award for the best ski resort in Japan. The snow season runs from late November to late March, offering luxurious resort hotels, hot springs, a variety of restaurants, a children's ski school, and a wide range of snow activities, suitable for families and Chinese-speaking tourists. The ski resort spans three peaks, with a total of 37 ski runs (42 kilometers in total), 18 gondolas, covering routes from beginner to advanced levels. The West Mountain is suitable for beginners and night skiing, while the East Mountain and Isola Mountain mainly offer intermediate to advanced level routes with powder snow trails, catering to the needs of all types of skiers.

Venue Overview

  • Location: Located in Rusutsu Village, Abuta District, Hokkaido, southeast of Mount Yotei, approximately 90 minutes drive from New Chitose Airport and Sapporo City, north of Lake Toya.

  • Features: Known as the largest ski resort north of latitude 40 degrees, Rusutsu Resort is one of the largest ski areas in Hokkaido alongside Niseko, owned by Kamori Kanko Group. It boasts ultimate powder snow and was awarded "Best Ski Resort in Japan" at the 2018 World Ski Awards.

  • Operating Hours: For the 2024-2025 snow season, the resort will be open from November 23, 2024, to March 30, 2025, operating from 9:00 to 20:00 (night skiing from 16:00 to 20:00, mid-December to late March, subject to snow conditions).

  • Facilities:

    • Luxury resort accommodations including North & South Wings and The Westin Rusutsu Resort (formerly known as the Tower Wing), connected by a mini-train.

    • Facilities include hot springs, upscale restaurants (serving Wagyu beef hot pot, Hokkaido king crab buffet), and an indoor double-decker carousel.

    • Well-equipped children's ski school with ample Chinese-speaking instructors, suitable for families and Mandarin-speaking visitors.

    • Ski rental stations (such as Salomon Station, Premium Rental Station) offering equipment of all levels and sizes.

    • Other activities: snowmobiling, dog sledding, children's playground.

Slope Zones and Features

Rusutsu Ski Resort covers three peaks: West Mountain, East Mountain, and Mt. Isola, with 37 ski runs totaling 42 kilometers, and 18 gondola routes catering to beginners to advanced skiers.

  1. West Mountain:

    • Area: Approximately 25% of the resort.

    • Features: Night skiing area suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers.

    • Representative Runs:

      • Easy Trail: The gentlest slope, wide and suitable for first-time skiers, located near the chairlift for easy practice.

      • White Lover: Maximum slope of 12 degrees, ideal for beginners to practice.

    • Facilities: Close to North & South Wings with more restaurants and shops.

  2. East Mountain and Mt. Isola:

    • Area: Approximately 75% of the resort.

    • Features: Mainly intermediate to advanced runs, ideal for experienced and professional skiers with excellent powder snow quality.

    • Representative Runs:

      • Super East: Black diamond run with a maximum slope of 40 degrees, ungroomed with moguls, suitable for skilled experts.

      • Heavenly Canyon: Located at the top of Mt. Isola, ungroomed run, 1,850 meters long, with abundant snow in the valley terrain, attracting powder snow enthusiasts.

      • Forest Road Run: Offers a waterfall-like powder snow experience, suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers.

    • Facilities: Close to The Westin Rusutsu Resort with hot springs and upscale restaurants.
